Manufacturing defect affects some iPhones

According to a report in the New York Times, a defect in manufacturing has resulted in longer charging times and a shorter battery life for some owners of the new 5S. The defect seems to affect [only] several thousand users.  Apple is reported to say that they are reaching out to those affected users and will provide them with replacement devices.
