 August 31, 2010 Meeting

MacBUS Meeting We had a last minute cancelation.
The presenter had an emergency which prevented them from attending our meeting.

We decided to try out a virtual meeting using a program called dimdim.

dimdim.com
We will be using the free version which allows up to 20 to join in and view a meeting. We will have slides that we usually view at the beginning of a meeting followed by a Q & A in which you will be able to post questions. Members can participate and view the meeting on your computer's web browser. Just send us an email you will receive an email invitation on the day of the meeting telling you how to join the meeting.

Here is a little more information about dimdim.

If you can view a webpage, you can Dimdim. Dimdim never makes you or your guests install software to have a meeting - all that is required is a web browser. Share your documents, webcams, web pages, whiteboards, pass control to multiple presenters - even record your meetings with DImdim Pro - all without installing any software. And up to 1000 people can meet with Dimdim Webinar. No one else does this but Dimdim.

Present your documents using the built in laser pointer, annotation and zoom tools. Start scrolling through any web page and as you scroll the webpage on your computer, your guest will see what you see and their view will scroll with you. Visit a YouTube page and the video you discover will start playing on everyone’s computer - all in sync.

Dimdim Pro comes with high quality microphone and webcam sharing so you can share your voice and video - even assign an additional webcam to any participant and show yourself in higher resolution video. In addition every account comes with free audio conferencing and unlimited public and private text chat.

The MacBUS Newsletter, CONNECTIONS will resume publication in September.

Do you or your business have a presence online? Are you trying to drive traffic to your site? Chris Urban from Tetra will review two important tools from Google that may be able to help you:

Google AdWords Manager - the central starting place for developing and managing online ads placed for Google. We'll review basic to intermediate concepts, including how keyword-based ads differ from content-based ads. iPad
What's inside, how does it work

Dale Fletcher will demonstrate the inter workings of the iPad. He spent several hours going over the guts inside the iPad to show what it's future might be. Antennas, battery, circuit board placement connectors and a short section on the photo handling and the video handling. He got to spend 4 or 5 hours with a couple of the demo units.

It's hard to believe Apple could fit so many great ideas into something so thin. iPad has a 9.7-inch, LED-backlit IPS display with a remarkably precise Multi-Touch screen. And yet, at just 1.5 pounds and 0.5 inch thin, it's easy to carry and use anywhere.

Eric Lucas will present
Business continuity - thought and action

"We live in a world that seems to REACT to emergencies, rather than PREPARE for them, leading to a situation in which the panic can be more dangerous than the disaster itself." -Neil Strauss, Author.

"Business continuity - thought and action" is an introduction to Business Continuity focused on the actual needs of small businesses, organizations, and communities. By replacing the worry and panic that follows emergencies with preparation through thought and action, this interactive presentation provides a foundation to begin drafting your business continuity plan, giving you the power to deal with whatever comes your way.

Eric Lucas:
With nearly 30 years of professional experience Eric has a diverse background ranging from business continuity and disaster recovery to family and personal preparedness, to information technology and electrical engineering. As a team leader, individual contributor, entrepreneur, consultant, and volunteer he has worked with companies such as General Electric, Lockheed Martin, IMS America, PEPCO Holdings, as well as the American Red Cross, Lutheran Disaster Response, and VOAD. His latest project is the development of a simplified business continuity framework for small and medium business.
